Thomas O'Neil

Thomas L. O’Neil, 68, of Cheboygan, passed away Saturday. April 15, 2017 at Hiland Cottage in Petoskey. 

A resident of Cheboygan since 2001, moving from Alpena, Tom was born July 24, 1948 in Alpena, the son of John T. and Virginia (Skiba) O’Neil.  He was a graduate of Alpena High School, and served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.  He later attended Central Michigan University in Mt. Pleasant, and Lake Superior State University in Sault Ste. Marie.  On September 26, 1998 in Alpena, he married Donna Kondratko, who survives.  Tom was employed for 25 years at the Besser Company in Alpena as an Information Systems Manager, retiring in 1999.  He also enjoyed gardening, hunting, golfing, spending time outdoors, was a member of St. Thomas Lutheran Church, and was active in the VFW in Spruce, Michigan, and the Vietnam Veterans Association in Cheboygan. 

Surviving are his wife, Donna, his son, Matthew (Malinda) O’Neil of Ballwin, Missouri, two step daughters, Alaina Maiani of Ste St. Marie, and Kristen Maiani of Cheboygan, four grandchildren, Victoria, Nicholas, and Hanah O’Neil, and Tyler Emery, his mother, Virginia O’Neil, his siblings, John M. (Barbara) O’Neil, Patrick O’Neil, Margaret (Dave) Przeslawski, Dennis (Diane) O’Neil, Sally (Bob) Cain, David (Deborah) O’Neil, Mary O’Neil, Robert (Peggy) O’Neil, and William (Christine) O’ Neil, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, and a brother, Ronald O’Neil.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 21, 2017 at 1:00pm, with the family greeting friends beginning at noon, at the Nordman-Christian Funeral Home in Cheboygan.
