Tienne Mathews Obituary

Tienne Michelle Mathews, 59, of Levering, passed away at 11:35 a.m. on November 7th, 2019. She went comfortably in her son’s arms, while holding her husband's hand after a wrong sided battle with cancer. Tienne is truly loved by so many, she touched so many hearts, and will be greatly missed.

She was born May 3rd, 1960 to Marvin and Sharlee May in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. In her youth, Tienne spent winters in Ft. Lauderdale and summers on her beloved Mackinac Island. Tienne graduated from Imperial Point Preparatory Academy of Ft. Lauderdale class of 1978. She married the love of her life Ed Mathews August 29th, 1981, then settled in Levering, MI to raise their three children.

She is survived by her husband Ed; her two daughters, Marlee and Corrina; and her son, Edwin; also by her sister, Tara (Randy) Lee; brother, Vern May; her stepmother Crescencia May; two half-sisters, Carolyn and Heather May; and her stepbrother, Lee (Jessica) May; as well as her four precious grandchildren, Lilly Delis, Antonio Marchio, Zayla and Luna Mathews; she also leaves behind many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; and sister, Tawna May.

Tienne dedicated her entire working career to her family business May’s Famous Mackinac Fudge for 40+ years. She worked as a 4th generation head candy maker, master chocolatier, general manager, counselor, and confidant. She never missed a summer season until she retired in the fall of 2018. She was a true staple of Mackinac Island and fixture of downtown. Tienne always took the time to listen and always had a kind word to say. She had touched so many hearts, and helped shape so many lives. We are all better people for having known our sweet Tienne. She really enjoyed the simple things in life; the beach, gardening, cooking, arts and crafts, time with friends and family, good music, riding motorcycles with her man, and being a grandmother. She won medals for barrel racing horses. She traveled Europe and the US. She may have been born a Florida girl, but Northern Michigan was her true home.

Her visitation will be held at Stone Funeral Home of Petoskey, MI, November 16th, 2019 starting at 12:00 noon. Her memorial service will be officiated by Pastor Ed Warner at 1:00pm.

The family asks for anyone and everyone to join the celebration of life for food and drinks at Hoppies Landing in Pellston following the service from 2:30-5:00 p.m.

The family also asks in lieu of flowers, memorials should be made to a charity of choice.
