Virginia "Ginger" Irene Veen, 68, of Alanson, Michigan, died May 12, 2018.
Ginger was born March 21, 1950, the daughter of Arthur and Virginia "Ginny" (Archer) Smith. She grew up in Harbor Springs and attended Harbor Springs High School.
On May 24, 1975, she married Dave Veen at his parent's home in Harbor Springs.
Ginger worked at various places around town as a waitress and also as a real estate agent. In 1983, Dave and Ginger took over the Veen family business, County Wide Services, until their retirement in 2017.
She loved her flower gardens. She was an avid golfer, boater and enjoyed camping. Ginger was her grandson's biggest tennis fan. She would attend every tennis match she could and would wear a special shirt and jacket to support him from afar on his away games. She was a member in the Christ Child Society of Northern Michigan and the Harbor Springs Snowmobile Club.
Ginger will be remembered for her feisty personality, she was strong willed and fun loving. She cherished her family more than anything. She was a loving wife, a giving mother and a proud grandmother.
Ginger is survived by her husband Dave Veen of Alanson; mother Virginia "Ginny" Snivley; sons, Billy (Dawn) McNamara of Petoskey and Gary (Maria) Veen of Pontiac; grandsons, Gunnar McNamara and Gage Kilpatrick; siblings, Karen (Mike) Geary, Sheila (Al) Major, Susan Lytle and Bob (Sharon) Smith; and sister-in-law Diane (Keith) Veen-Price.
Ginger is preceded in death by her father, Arthur Smith; step father, James Snivley; sister, Diane Kruzel; and brother Randy Smith.
There will be a visitation at Stone Funeral Home, Thursday, May 17, 2018 from 5-8 p.m.
