Wayne Comps

Wayne E. Comps, 62, of Cheboygan, passed away Monday, May 15, 2017 at McLaren Northern Michigan in Petoskey.

A lifelong resident of the area, Wayne was born July 15, 1954 in Cheboygan, the son of John and Irene (Bur) Comps.  On May 9, 1981 in Cheboygan, he married Theresa Callan.  Wayne, known as the “chip man” was employed by Jay’s Potato Chip Company for over 25 years, retiring in 2007. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, and enjoyed bowling, camping, deer hunting with his brothers at deer camp, trips to the casino, and was a member of the Cheboygan Men’s Horseshoe League.

Surviving are his wife, Theresa, two children, Tammy (fiancée, Tim Batchelder) Comps, and Brenda (Jordan) Velandia, both of Cheboygan, four grandchildren, Rylee, Kassiah, Evanlee and Charlotte,  his mother, Irene Comps of Cheboygan, seven brothers and sisters, Ken (Patty) Comps of Cheboygan, Fred (Joni Hall) Comps of Gaylord, Mike (Deborah) Comps of Cheboygan, Karen (Jim) Stang of Burnsville, Minnesota, Debra (Brian) Fuller of Indian River, Tom (Roberta) Comps of Cheboygan and Larry (Elena) Comps of Cheboygan, a brother in law, Bob (Laurel) Callan of Cheboygan, and Cathy (Ed) Johnson of Clio, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 18, 2017, from 2:00pm-4:00pm, and 6:00pm-8:00pm, at the Nordman-Christian Funeral Home in Cheboygan.  The funeral service will be held on Friday, May 19, 2017 at 11:00am, with the family greeting friends beginning at 10:00am, also at the funeral home, with Rev. John Wallace officiating.

Memorials may be made to the Cheboygan Little League, or the Cheboygan Men’s Horseshoe League.
