Albert Alfred Merrill, 87, of Petoskey, died August 1, 2020.
Albert was born in Petoskey, the son of William and Adda (Plum) Merrill, on April 2, 1933. He attended Petoskey public schools and graduated in 1951. He joined the United States Navy the following year and proudly served his country during the Korean and Vietnam war-times.
After returning to Michigan, Albert began working as a truck driver for Dunstan Supply. He retired after 30 years of service. Although driving was his trade, Albert was a farmer at heart. He raised pigs and loved the long hours and hard work.
He volunteered as a fireman, coached boys little league, and was active with the local VFW and the Antique-Flywheelers Club. Albert enjoyed hunting, playing BINGO and going to auctions. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Albert is survived by his wife, Kathleen (Anderson) Merrill; his children, Richard (Noreen) Merrill, Delberta (Terry) Simon, Terrie (the late Kenneth) Hunt, Linda Webb, and Jeanette (Herman) Simon; 12 grandchildren, Jayson Simon, Nichole Simon, Will Simon, Jennifer Lewis, Jessica Laurie, Amanda Mays, Andrea Gale, Ryan Dunkel, Kaylee McChaney, Herman Simon, Merrill Simon, and Grant Simon; 22 great grandchildren; and his brother, John Merrill.
Services are pending at this time and will be announced at a later date.
