Alexa Southwell Obituary

Alexa Elizabeth Southwell of Brutus, Michigan, 20, died in her sleep on January 2, 2026. Alexa graduated from Harbor Springs High School in 2023, then was a student at Northwestern Michigan University, majoring in science. She was planning on attending Lake Superior State University in the fall to finish her degree. Lexa was fascinated by genetics and wanted to get a job working with DNA. Lexa worked at the local BC Pizza, where she excelled at customer service and took pride in catching two ovens-something that only a few people mastered. In the summer, Alexa helped her Uncle Ray with his sealing business. They made a perfect team, working together in sync and coming home tanned, dirty, and happy, even though the work was not simple.

Lexa was engaged to be married and enjoyed planning her wedding with her fiancé, Josiah. She had learned how to crochet from a family friend and quickly fell in love with the craft, making blankets for the people who she loved, and 3D art to make them laugh. Lexa was strong-willed, kind, thoughtful, quirky and quick-witted.  She loved deeply and cared for everyone. There was always a smile on her face. Her best friends Maria, Evan, and Liam were often together having fun, laughing and making memories together. Lexa’s laugh was contagious. Though public speaking naturally came difficult for her, Lexa recently took a speech class where she gained an entire class of friends and a new confidence. Lexa loved to travel and traveled to Ireland as part of her college studies. Her favorite spot was the beach at Sturgeon Bay. She rarely came out of the water, swimming regardless of the cold. Family Halloween parties when Lexa was young created a strong love of the season. She would endure the Christmas season as long as others endured her holiday. Lexa enjoyed spending time with her college friends, watching movies and having a good time together. Lexa’s favorite TV shows explored the mysteries of the human body, and she and her brother often talked about the complexity of these plots. Lexa loved animals, especially her dogs, Bella and BG, and the new family cat, Whisper. Because of this, house sitting was one of her favorite jobs. She loved to cuddle under the covers, watching tv with a dog or two laying on top of her. Sunflowers, pineapples, mini frying pans and the color purple were some of her favorites.

Alexa is survived by Josiah Logan, her fiancé; her brother Evan Southwell and her parents Liz and Eric Southwell; her grandparents, Ray and Faith Southwell; her aunt and uncle Tammy and David Sydow; Matthew and Tricia Spierling; Ray and Marybeth Southwell, Tamara and Jed Magda; her cousins Bryan, Kass, Sean, Ayden, Wyatt, Kaylee, Leah, Adam, Emma, Kelsey, Ben, Mabel, Alyssa, Lilah and Tripp; her fiancé’s family Darcy and Tim Logan; Jonathan, Allison and Evelyn Logan; Benjamin Logan; and Christopher Logan. She is preceded in death by her grandparents, Matt and Darlene Spierling.
