Anna Young Obituary

Anna L. Young, of Boyne City, Michigan, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at Grandvue Medical Center, surrounded by her loving family.

Born to William E. Kerr and Michelena (Hackenberg) Kerr, Anna spent her entire life in Boyne City, graduating from Boyne City High School in 1945. She was the eldest of seven siblings and took on the role of caregiver after their father abandoned the family in 1942. With their mother working two jobs to support them, Anna’s dedication and love were a cornerstone for her siblings, who deeply respected her for all she did during those challenging years.

Anna’s brothers served their country with distinction: Tuff was wounded in Korea and received the Purple Heart, Norman was the first Vietnam KIA from Boyne City, William served in both Korea and Vietnam, Pete served in the Navy, and Eugene in the Army.

In November 1950, Anna married Willis L. Young, and they shared a devoted life together until his passing in October 2008. Willis worked tirelessly to ensure Anna could remain at home until their children were in school. Afterward, Anna joined Boyne Essex, where she worked until her retirement when the company closed.

Anna’s love for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were boundless. She welcomed everyone into her home, ensuring no one left hungry or without a bag of food to take with them. Her warmth extended to all children she encountered, always offering a smile or a hug. She is cherished by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren for her unwavering love and kindness.

Anna is survived by her children: Stephen C. (Carol) Young of Pooler, Georgia; Michael W. (Barbara) Young of Boyne City; Shari (Kevin) Hocquard of Boyne City; and Brian L. (Shelly) Young of Boyne City. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Willis and her son Richard L. Young.

Honoring her wishes, there will be no services. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Grandvue Medical Center in East Jordan, Michigan, for their exceptional care of her and her family during Anna’s battle with dementia.
