Annette Sova Obituary

Annette Marie Sova, age 81 of Cheboygan, passed away peacefully on October 28, 2023, following a lengthy illness.

Annette “Tootie” was born on March 19, 1942 in Kalamazoo, MI to parents Francis and Dorothy (Couture) Shampine.  She was one of fourteen children.  Besides her parents, Annette was preceded in death by her son, Jeffrey Christopher Sova, her siblings, Richard, Thomas, and Dave Shampine, Rita Gobeyn, and Sally Shampine.

Annette married Bill Sova on January 27, 1962 and they made their home in Cheboygan.  Besides Bill, she is survived by her loving children, Dawn Sova and Vince Sova, both of Cheboygan.  Missing her are her very special grandchildren, Shawn Viau and Marylynn (Abe) Brown; and great grandchildren, Ella, Oliva, Anna, and Ada Brown and Adam and Alissa Deloy.  Also surviving Annette are siblings, Novalee Niesen, Marcia Shampine, Marlene (Craig) Bongard, Cheryl Kwiatkoski, Kim Cook, Denise (Art) Watts, Lawrence Shampine, Pete Shampine; and several nieces and nephews.  Also surviving are Bill’s sisters, Barb (John) Archambo, Mary Gaynor, Sharon LaHaie, and Sandy Beard.

Annette was employed for over 40 years at the Straits Area Federal Credit Union and was head of bookkeeping for most of her career.  She enjoyed her job and in later years, gave her time volunteering at Bishop Baraga School.  She also enjoyed baking many delicious goodies for friends and family.

Annette’s hobbies included crocheting, knitting, baking, and spending time with her family.  She was also famous for sending out cards to countless people who were ill, down on their luck, or who just needed a word of encouragement.  Annette touched the lives of many.

A memorial Mass will be held at St. Mary’s/St. Charles Catholic Church in Cheboygan on Friday, November 3rd at 11am.  The family will receive friends at the church beginning at 10am.  Burial will follow at the Calvary Cemetery in Cheboygan.  A luncheon will follow at the Cheboygan Eagles.
