Arlene Skop Obituary

Arlene Delores (Bachman) Skop, 96, of Boyne Falls, Michigan, passed away on September 11, 2025, at Grandvue Medical Care Facility in East Jordan, Michigan.

Arlene was born in Boyne City, Michigan, on June 14, 1929, to Elmer and Daisy (Banner) Bachman. On July 28, 1946, she married Edward Skop of Boyne Falls. They shared 78 years of marriage until Ed’s passing in 2024.

Ed and Arlene settled in Boyne Falls where they raised their family of six children. Arlene was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She and her husband owned and managed the Wonderland Motel in Boyne Falls. Upon the sale of the motel, she completed her working career at Country Casuals of Petoskey.

Arlene was known for her outstanding cooking abilities. All the grandchildren and great-grandchildren knew where the always full cookie jar was at Grandma’s house. When the cookie jar was full, Arlene moved outside to work in her beautiful flower beds. She loved watching and caring for birds, chipmunks, and other small animals. They knew that a good meal was always waiting for them, too. Holiday celebrations, and family gatherings, were extra special because of the love and planning she provided.

Arlene was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and her brother Marvin.

Arlene is survived by her children: Judy (Rod) Phillips, Susan (Fred) Denise, Dave (Ruth) Skop, Mike (Kathy) Skop, Mark Skop, Lori (Doug) Herrington: grandchildren: David (Cathy) Phillips, Michael (Lindsey) Phillips, Jeff (Michelle) Denise, Trisha (Kyle) Lockman, Michelle Cosier, Melissa (Neal) Cross, Sarah (Matt) Harju, Matthew (Whitney) Skop, Kory Skop, Madison Skop, Shae Skop, Maris (Nicholas Thomas) Herrington, Lindsey (Mike) Bell; and 18 great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at Boyne Valley Township Cemetery on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, at 4:30 PM, with Pastor Jeff Ellis officiating.

The family especially wishes to thank the staff at Grandvue Medical care Facility for the love and care shown to Mom during this past year. Their heartfelt dedication to caring for her was greatly appreciated and will never be forgotten.

The family suggests donations be made to the Charlevoix Area Humane Society or Grandvue Medical Care Facility.

Arrangements are in the care of Stackus Funeral Home.
