Audrey Gail Walli, age 84, passed away peacefully on Friday April 18th, 2025, in Harbor Springs, Michigan, at home surrounded by her loving family following a long and courageous battle with dementia, one she faced with remarkable grace.
Born on January 15, 1941, in Pike County, Kentucky, Audrey was the daughter of Frank and Zella Fleming. Her family later settled in Dearborn, Michigan, where she graduated with the Fordson High School Class of 1959.
A dedicated educator and lifelong learner, Audrey earned her Bachelor of Science and Master’s Degree in Elementary Education, along with a Specialist in Reading, from Eastern Michigan University.
Audrey devoted over 30 years of her life to teaching. She began her career in Wyandotte, Michigan, then later moved to Southfield Public Schools where she worked as a Reading Specialist. In addition to her dedication to her younger students, she also taught Education classes at University of Detroit Mercy, as well as Eastern Michigan University. Her passion for education and deep compassion for her students left a lasting mark.
In retirement, Audrey found joy in Harbor Springs, moving full time to their home in Birchwood Farms Golf & Country Club where they have been members for almost fifty years. She continued to enjoy playing tennis and golf, boating, and traveling through Europe—pursuing adventure and beauty wherever she went.
Audrey’s dedication to others led her to enjoy volunteering at Bay Bluffs, Little Traverse Figure Skating Club, and serving as President of the Harbor Springs Women's Club. She selflessly continued to give back to her community with kindness and care.
Audrey was the center of love for her family—steadfast, nurturing, and deeply loved. Her legacy lives on in the countless lives she touched with her strength, warmth, and unwavering devotion.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 59 years, Douglas; two daughters Karen Carlstrom (Mikael) of Angelholm, Sweden, Brenda (TJ) Mandella of Worcester, Massachusetts, and her two grandchildren, Brian Carlstrom of Helsingborg, Sweden, and Alexandra Carlstrom (fiancé Max) of Angelholm, Sweden.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude for the exceptional love and care provided by her caregivers: Brooke, Pam, Lisa, Shawana, and her loving husband.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that any donations be made to Hospice of Michigan at hom.org.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
