Barbara Cornhill Obituary

Barbara L. Cornhill, 79, of Cheboygan passed away Tuesday, March 2, 2021. She was born May 20, 1941, the daughter of Charles & Della (Gillespie) Minegar of Otsego, MI where she grew up. On June 30th, 1959, she married Harold Cornhill in Plainwell MI.  They met as members of the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra where Barbara played the violin and Harold played the tympani. They are both members of St. Thomas Lutheran Church. They raised five children in Cheboygan, all of whom are also musically inclined.

 Barbara was one of the founders of the St. Thomas Food Pantry along with her husband Harold. She always enjoyed helping others and making them feel welcome.

Barbara enjoyed attending concerts and events of her children and grandchildren, actively participating in her church with her church family, reading, writing poetry and stories, and she was dedicated to, and enjoyed spending time with her family. 

 Barbara also has enjoyed her time with a small group of her closest friends affectionately referred to as “The birthday girls”. 

 She is survived by her husband, Harold Cornhill of Cheboygan, three daughters, Norma (Mark) Nichols, Denise (Chuck) Antonopulos and Heather (Sean) Homan, her son, Jeff (Heidi) Cornhill, son-in-law, Chris Rogala, 11 grandchildren and four great grandchildren who all love her deeply.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Jolene Rogala, three brothers Verlyn (Dorothy) Minegar, Dean (Lucille) Minegar and Robert “Bob” (Jean) Minegar, her grandson, Jordan Rash and her granddaughter, Megan Harrison.

No services are planned at this time. Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Thomas Lutheran Church or Hospice of the Straits.  Arrangements are being handled by the Nordman-Christian Funeral Home.
