Barbara Marie Berschback Faubert of Natick, MA passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 22, 2025 in Petoskey, Michigan.
She was predeceased by her parents, Charlotte Pillar and Donald Frances Berschback, her brother, Don (Anne), and her husband, G. Richard Faubert. She is survived by her five brothers: Tom (Mary Marie), Jim (Karen), Bob (Terri), Rick (Mary), and Chip (Suzy).
Barbara was the loving mother of Mary Beth Mahoney (Randy), Renée (Mary Pelletier), Rick (Wendy), John (Elizabeth Pratt), Michael (Liz), and Anne Low (Seth). She was the adoring grandmother to Meghan, Caitlin (Timmy Murphy), and Kevin Mahoney; Nils (Nicole), Tristan, and Lars Olsen; Charlotte, Caroline, Annie, and James Faubert; Jack and Lucy Faubert; Sebastian and Sophie Faubert; and David and Sarah Low.
Barbara was born July 7, 1941 in Detroit, Michigan. She grew up in Grosse Pointe Park, Michigan where she attended St. Clare Grade School, Dominican High School, and Marygrove College.
At the age of 16, she set off on a life-changing adventure, a cross-country road trip that included dining with Hollywood stars, ascending Yosemite’s half-dome in a pair of “tennies,” and learning all the songs of the Yale Wiffenpoofs thanks to the vocal talents of one of the members of the group. Barbara’s love of travel, adventure, and time spent with good friends permeated through the decades. She created amazing memories on the beaches of Boca Grande, the rivers of Europe, the shore of Walloon Lake, and in her own backyard.
She moved with her family to Wellesley, Massachusetts in the 1970’s where the Faubert household was a hub of caregiving and community gathering.
Barbara had an entrepreneurial spirit. She started a family day care which she and her daughter, Renée, ran for 40 years. One of the many parents who entrusted the early care of her children to Barbara recently reflected, “I adore [Barbara]- her wisdom, love, humor and practicality taught me so much, and I will be forever grateful for all she shared with me and my three children.” Another noted her “High-wattage smile, her enthusiasm for every day, and her deep wisdom and insights into human nature.”
Those who knew Barbara appreciated her no nonsense approach to life. Her pragmatism and predilection for efficiency were remarkable and frequently sent the recipient of her counsel on the right path. She advised friends, neighbors, and strangers alike. Her ability to make someone feel seen and heard was one of her greatest gifts.
Barbara showed up, especially for her grandchildren. While she prided herself on being an athlete and naturally enjoyed being a sports spectator, her grandchildren’s interests and talents extended to performing and visual arts, academia, and beyond. Barbara attended countless games, concerts, performances, and graduations. She will be remembered as a quintessential cheerleader who enabled everyone she loved to grow into the best version of themselves.
We invite you to honor Barbara Faubert by supporting The Community Fund of Metro West (https://www.communityfoundationmw.org/donate). And, if you are local to Wellesley, please stop by the “Take and Leave” and swap an item or swap a story in her memory.
