Barbara "Bobbie" Dickinson Jones Obituary

Barbara “Bobbie” Dickinson Jones, age 91, died on April 16, 2025, at the Villa at the Bay in Petoskey.

Born and raised in Haleyville, Alabama, Bobbie was the daughter of Willie Ray and Cora Lou (Templeton) Dickinson. She grew up alongside her sister, Virginia “Ginny,” and brother, Charles Donald “Don” Dickinson. Her Southern roots remained strong throughout her life, even after moving north to Short Hills, New Jersey, where she raised her two sons, Peter Jr. and David, with love and devotion.

A dedicated stay-at-home mother, Bobbie was deeply involved in her sons’ lives. Her passion for sports, especially bowling, in which she excelled and won numerous trophies and tournaments, was passed down to Peter and David, who both became active in various sports of their own. She was their biggest fan, never missing a soccer or baseball game. Bobbie was also a proud and loyal fan of Alabama football, cheering on her beloved Crimson Tide with enthusiasm. Later in life, she adopted the Detroit Tigers as her own, following them just as faithfully.

Over the years, Bobbie called many places home, including Wilsonville, Alabama; Short Hills, New Jersey; Hilton Head Island, South Carolina; and Petoskey, Michigan.

She is survived by her sons Peter (Sharon) Jones, Jr. of Randolph, New Jersey, and David L. (Patricia) Jones of Petoskey, Michigan; grandchildren Samantha, Ryan, and Brett Jones of Randolph, New Jersey, and Annie and Ellie Jones of Petoskey, Michigan; sister Virginia “Ginny” Nelson of Stone Mountain, Georgia; nephew Mike (Susie) Nelson of Stone Mountain, Georgia; and niece Karen Nelson Arnold of Bernadetta Beach, Florida.

Bobbie is preceded in death by her parents; and her brother Charles “Don” Dickinson.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Bobbie’s name may go to the Dementia Society of America, or any organization supporting dementia research.
