Betsy Naumer

Betsy Clink Naumer, 87, passed away on October 17, 2025. She had a joy for life and was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to all who knew her.

Born in Muskegon, Michigan, to Stephen Henry and Margaret French Clink, Betsy was the beloved wife of Walter W. Naumer, Jr., her partner of 62 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and her siblings. She is survived by her daughters Beth Wickliffe, Mindy Naumer and Sarah Galioto, and her seven grandchildren.

Betsy earned her Bachelor of Education from the University of Michigan in 1960 and taught elementary school outside Detroit before marrying. She remained a loyal supporter of the university and its sports teams throughout her life.

Betsy and her husband then settled in Du Quoin, Illinois, where they raised their three daughters.

Betsy was deeply committed to her community and gave generously of her time. She was active in the Girl Scouts Organization for many years, serving on the Shagbark Council’s Board of Directors and becoming its president from 1983 to 1989. She also served on the board of the United Way of Southern Illinois, as a vice president of the board of Southern Illinois’ National Public Radio affiliate WSIU, and as a member of the Illinois Nursing Home Administrators Licensing and Disciplinary Board.

Later in life, Betsy and Walt relocated to Douglas Lake in Levering, Michigan. There, she was a devoted member of the Church of the Straits in Mackinac City and an active supporter of the Douglas Lake Improvement Association, serving as a zone representative for many years.

Betsy will be lovingly remembered and missed by her many friends and family. 

On Saturday October 25, 2025, a visitation will be held at 10:30 a.m. followed by a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of the Straits in Mackinac City. A private family burial at Munro Township Cemetery will be held that afternoon.
