Betty Luebke Obituary

Betty Louise Luebke (Brown) (Vegter) age 98 stepped into the arms of Jesus her Lord and Savior, February 28, 2025 at Bay Bluffs Medical Facility on the shores of her beloved Little Traverse Bay, Michigan.

Born in Petoskey, MI on April 30, 1926 to Lyman S. Brown and L. Pearl Brown (Lancaster). She is survived by son Jack H. Vegter (wife Trudy A. Vegter) of Branson, MO, and daughter Barbara J. Patterson (husband Gary Patterson) of Grawn, MI; five grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Barbara Kinsman age 96 of Rutherforton, NC and three nieces. She is also survived by the children of second husband John Luebke. Betty Johansen, Kay Lemasters, Jean McMichael (deceased) and Robert (Bob) Luebke as well as several grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

She is proceeded in death by her parents and her husband John (Jack) C. Luebke. As well as her first husband Harold J. Vegter of Muskegon, MI.

Betty’s outgoing personality and commitment to education led her into many fields of work and volunteering. She earned a B.A. and M.A. degrees from Central Michigan University in the 1960’s. Her work, over the years, as a swimming instructor, summer camp program director, college professor, substitute teacher, and in hospitality management provided experiences she used to volunteer in the Grange, 4-H clubs and Marine Veteran widows, Petoskey Historical Museum, Emmet County Friendship Center and her local church (Landmark Baptist Church).

A celebration of Betty’s life will be held graveside at Greenwood Cemetery in Petoskey at 11:00 A.M. Friday June 13, 2025. Remembrances can be made to any of her favorite organizations.
