Carl Lockman Obituary

Carl was born on August 27th, 1951, a son to the late Robert and Ardis (Kowalske) Lockman. He was a graduate of Boyne City High School’s class of 1969. Carl met his future wife, the late Elaine Dixon while airing up her bicycle tires as he worked at his uncle’s Shell gas station. They married in the fall of 1973 and built their home and family in Boyne City. While raising their two children Carl was employed as a full-time rural mail carrier for the Boyne City Post Office, where he worked for many years before retiring in 2008.

Carl dedicated a large portion of his life to his community, from coaching many years of baseball which included championship teams, to working over a decade for the Boyne City Ambulance. Carl always went the extra mile to make sure everyone was taken care of on his mail route and was sure to lend a hand to anyone who needed it. The one thing that Carl loved the most was to be a volunteer fireman on the Boyne City Fire Department. He spent the majority of his years in officer roles, starting as a Captain and then moving up to Assistant Chief, which he retired as in 2001 after 25 years of service.

After retirement Carl devoted his time to his family. Nothing made him happier that doting on his seven grandchildren and the smiles and laughter from each of them. He was always up early each morning to see them off and was there waiting for the school bus at the end of the road each and every day when they came home. His loving and kind soul touched so many throughout his life, and his smile will be remembered fondly by those who knew him.

He is survived by his children, Kyle (Trisha) Lockman of Boyne City, Kelli (Caleb) Schoolcraft of Boyne City; grandchildren, Erika, Noah, Collin, Kaiden, Nashville, Lainey, and Kyla; brother, Don (Jackie) Lockman of Boyne City; sisters, Nancy Fortune (Jeff Bodette) of Walloon Lake and Chris (Pete Huskisson) of Boyne City, many cousins, nieces and nephews and his beloved dog Roscoe.

Per Carl’s request, there will not be a service. His wishes were to be cremated and then be brought back to the family property. A celebration of life and remembrance event will be held in the coming months to honor the lives and memories of both Carl and Elaine.
