Carl "Jerry" Merrill, Sr.

Carl J. Merrill, Sr., “Jerry”, 72, died March 17, 2025, at McLaren Northern Michigan Hospital.

Born April 22, 1952, in Petoskey, he was the son of Carl and Martha (Kleinschrodt) Merrill. On June 27, 1971, he married Charlene Kerberskey, with whom he shared over 50 years of marriage and raised a son and daughter.

Outside of work, he enjoyed spending time in his garage, riding his Kubota tractor, and watching car races. He loved camping, fishing, and could often be found on his 14-foot aluminum boat. Another favorite pastime was buying, fixing, and selling used lawnmowers. Jerry will be remembered for his sense of humor and his deep love for his family.

Jerry is survived by his wife Charlene Merrill; his children Carl Jr. (Kim) Merrill and Michael Merrill (fiancé Kortney Heckman); grandson Colby Merrill; mother Martha Merrill; siblings Irene Radle, Dennis (Kathy) Merrill, and Henry (Randy) Baumgartner; as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his daughter Susan Ann Merrill; his dad Carl Merrill; brother Rick Merrill; mother and father-in-law Gladys and George May; and brother-in-law Tom Radle.

A family service will take place at a later date. Jerry will be laid to rest at Joy Valley Cemetery in the spring of 2025.
