Carol Joy (Tuorin) Santti passed away December 2, 2021 at home with her husband and daughters by her side.
Carol was born December 30, 1947 in Detroit, MI to George A. and Martha A. (Kauranen) Tuorin. She graduated from Walled Lake High School, attended Grand Valley State College, Oakland Community College, and received her Nursing Degree from North Central Michigan College. She grew up and lived in Wixom, MI when first married and where she began to raise her daughters.
In 1981, she and her family moved north. She worked at J.C. Penney, Burns Clinic, and Bay Bluffs (Emmet County Medical Care Facility) where she was, at one point, the Director of Nursing.
She was an avid reader, being a fan of historic novels, and a steady patron of the Harbor Springs Public Library. Carol also enjoyed bowling, golf, swimming, occasionally gambling, and most of all, walking the shores of Lake Michigan at the Petoskey State Park. Since retirement she’s been able to travel to Florida, Seattle, and California to visit childhood friends. She made many trips to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, which she loved, with her husband and close family friends.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Karl Santti; her daughters Tracey (Bryan) Calnen and Alisa Santti (Christopher Premo); her grandchildren, Avery Calnen, Stone Calnen, and Lillian Premo; her sister Marie (Ross) Fogle; as well as, many cousins, nieces, nephews, and close friends.
There will be a visitation at Stone Funeral Home in Petoskey, MI on Saturday, December 11, 2021 from 3:00-5:00 p.m. A celebration of her life will take place at the Detroit Finnish Co-Operative Summer Camp Association in Wixom, MI in the spring of 2022 (date to be determined).
Her final trip was to Wayne State University, School of Medicine, Department of Anatomy where they may hopefully find some answers to this terrible disease.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Harbor Springs Public Library or Little Traverse Bay Humane Society.
