Catherine "Cathy" Scriven Obituary

Catherine “Cathy” Ann (Martini) Scriven, age 86, of Walloon Lake, died January 21, 2026, at Independence Village in Petoskey.

Cathy was born on March 12, 1939, in Cleveland, Ohio, the daughter of Charles and Jessie (Bartnik) Martini. She was raised in Cleveland and attended Ohio University, where she met the love of her life, James “Ron” Scriven.

Cathy and Ron were married on August 19, 1961, in Cleveland. Together they shared 64 happy years of marriage and raised two children, Carolyn and Michael. After Ron accepted a position with Ford Motor Company the family moved to Michigan. Ron’s job took them to Germany from 1972-1975, an experience that enriched the entire family. The family was fortunate to travel all over Europe. The family then moved back to Michigan and found a home in Bloomfield Twp.

Cathy and Ron both had early ties to northern Michigan, and Walloon Lake became a cherished place for their family. In the Early 1980’s they built their dream home on Walloon Lake. What began as working weekdays and spending weekends “Up North” eventually became a permanent move to Walloon Lake after Ron’s retirement in the 1990’s.

Cathy enjoyed playing tennis, golfing, and Scrabble. She loved gardening and became a member of the Petoskey Garden Club. She was also a member of the Walloon Lake Country Club. Cathy and Ron were the first Walloon Lake Country Club member sponsors of the Camp Daggett Golf Benefit and continued in that capacity for 20 years helping raise funds to support programs and scholarships for kids. Above all, she will be remembered as a tremendous cook, drawing on her Polish and Italian heritage. Her pierogis and spaghetti sauce were legendary. Cathy was one of the kindest souls you could meet, known for her warm smile and matching personality.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Ron Scriven of Walloon Lake; her children Carolyn Scriven -Wilhelm of Troy, Michigan and Mike (Lauren) Scriven of Petoskey; grandchildren, Chelsea (Garth) Gilbert, Graham Scriven, and Beckett Scriven. Cathy is preceded in death by her granddaughter Kristen Wilhelm. Arrangements are in the care of Stone Funeral Home. Honoring her wishes, a cremation has taken place. A celebration of life is being planned for the early summer and will be announced at a later date. The family would like to honor Cathy by continuing her legacy of Camp Daggett support. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations in memory of Cathy to Camp Daggett, 03001 Church Road, Petoskey, MI 49770 (www.campdaggett.org)
