Christopher F. Weingartz, age 67, entered eternal life on January 25, 2023 after a battle with prostate/bone cancer. Christopher was born in Macomb County, August 29, 1955, the (2nd) son of Vincent and Laura (Tomaszewski) Weingartz. Chris lived in Oakland County his young adult years and then moved to northern Michigan, and has been living in Petoskey for 24 years.
Without a doubt, Chris’s greatest passion was Cross Country Skiing. Chris was the founder of ULLR Nordic Ski Team and co-founder of the Michigan Cup competition. Christopher raced competitively for 46+ years, gaining many friends and buddies as they traveled from race to race. Chris trained all year for the winter sport, roller blading in the summer months, participated in triathlons and over 50 marathons; and it showed as he regularly scored in the top of his class. Chris participated in the ‘American Birkebeiner’ (America’s largest Nordic ski race with 10K participants) for 40 consecutive years; despite being a 50 kilometer course, Chris always finished with a highly reputable result. Chris also traveled to Norway for the soul purpose of skiing.
Chris loved to be outdoors hunting and also hunting for deer and elk antlers.
Chris is survived by his siblings Daniel Weingartz of Brevard, NC, Peggie Weingartz of Petoskey, MI, Tim (Linda) Weingartz of Middleville, MI, John (Laurie) Weingartz of Petoskey, MI, Lawrence Weingartz of Brevard, NC and Constance (Art) Keyes of Chandler Hill, MI.
Memorial Service to celebrate Chris’s life will be announced at a future date.
