Clarence William Hovey, 78, of Cheboygan, passed away on Sunday March 28, 2021 at McLaren Hospital in Petoskey. Clarence was born on July 23, 1942, the son of Clarence and Louise (Pethers) Hovey.
Clarence grew up and attended school in Cheboygan, graduating from Cheboygan High School in 1961. He then served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War stationed in the Philippians from 1961-1965.
After returning from service, Clarence married Betty Fish at St. Mary’s in Cheboygan in 1966, spending 54 years together.
Although his family was the most important thing to Clarence, his tax business was a close second. He was known to many of his friends and clients as “Mr. C”. He enjoyed golfing, hunting, and baseball, even becoming the Vice President of the Little League Association in Cheboygan. He loved listening to Elvis, especially his favorite song, “I Did It My Way”. Clarence was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Clarence was a very caring man, always wanting everyone to have a good time and you never felt lonely when he was around. He had many friends and loved children, especially his grand kids who he would call “dude.” He loved to talk and tell stories.
Clarence is survived by his wife, Betty, his children, Patricia Hovey, Clarence (Colleen) Hovey, Kim (Brent) Gahn, and Mary Bergstrom, his grandchildren, Scott Hovey, Joseph Carter, Chloe and Carly Hovey, Keyanna and Amber Gahn, Aleeza, Dalton, Trinity, and Evey Bergstrom, and Navaeh Rocco, and many cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Jennie Hovey-Behling.
There will be a private memorial service after tax season.
