Colleen Rose McRoberts, 87, of Harbor Springs, died January 1, 2022, at Bay Bluffs Medical Care Facility.
Colleen was born on January 26, 1934, in Hill City, Minnesota, one of seven children of Max and Rose (Wilkins) Saylor. She grew up in Muskegon, Michigan.
On December 27, 1952, she married Larry McRoberts. This was the beginning of a lifelong love story. Together, they would create a family with the addition of their four children. They celebrated their birthday together every year (both having been born on Jan. 26) and this past December marked their 69th wedding anniversary. They were each other’s better half, a perfect pairing and team.
Colleen was employed by Bidstrup and Young Surveyors and Engineers as a secretary for most of her adult life. In her spare time, she enjoyed playing cards and tennis. She also liked gardening and had beautiful flowerbeds. In the winters, she would be on the ski hills or snowmobile trails and was a founding member of the “Drift Busters Snowmobile Club.” She was an active member in the Harbor Springs United Methodist Church, and the Harbor Misses Extension Club. Colleen had a knack for baking and was known for her delicious desserts, especially carrot cake and her famous pies. If you visited her home, you were guaranteed to leave with a full belly. She was extremely family oriented and would travel far distances to attend weddings, graduations, and other important life events. She had a heart of gold and will be dearly missed.
She is survived by her husband, the love of her life, Larry McRoberts; her children, Carole (David) Cantrell of Harbor Springs, Kathi (David) Santis of Ann Arbor, Kelly (Terry) Leist of Petoskey, and David McRoberts of Harbor Springs; grandchildren, Nick (Jill) Gilmour, Jody Gilmour, Emily Santis, Alexandra Santis, and Tyler (Shannon) Leist; great-grandchildren, Lilly Gilmour, Beau Gilmour, Hudson Anderson and Iris Jean Leist; siblings, Lee (Marlene) Saylor and Mary Ann Lestinsky; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her siblings, Winifred Clark, Maxine Ghezzi, James Saylor, and William Saylor.
