Obituary

Curtis Day, 85 of Cheboygan, Michigan, died Saturday, September 2 at 6:35 pm at his home in Cheboygan.

Curt was born on May 12th, 1938 to Harry Day and Irene Day (formerly Brooks) of Cheboygan Michigan. He grew up and attended school in Cheboygan before moving to Marquette to attend Northern Michigan University where he obtained his undergraduate degree in secondary education. Curt went on to earn his Master’s degree in Administration from Michigan State University.

On July 28th, 1956 he married his high school sweet heart, Elaine Day (formerly Elaine Maxwell). They were married for 67 beautiful years. Their relationship was Christ centered and was an inspiration to all of those who were fortunate enough to call them friends.

Curt and Elaine resided in Walled Lake Michigan where they attended the Walled Lake Missionary church. Curt was a respected member of the church and he and Elaine went out of their way to serve their church community through music, friendship, and fellowship. From 1966 – 1994, Curt and Elaine traveled with one of three different gospel groups, sharing their faith through song. He was a talented pianist and singer and their music will live on in the hearts of so many who were fortunate enough to hear and know them.

He began his teaching career in Cheboygan Mi, before relocating to Walled Lake where he taught Social Studies, History and Political Science classes at Western High School. He had a deep passion for education and built very strong bonds with his students who continue to reach out to him to this day. Curt spent the remainder of his career at Central H.S. as an assistant principal. He retired after 35 years of service but the ripple effect of the impact he made in Walled Lake Schools will be felt for years and years to come.

In retirement Curt and Elaine were snowbirds. They wintered in Florida where Curt enjoyed playing golf with the guys. In the summer time, they would return to Cheboygan where he enjoyed even more golf, visiting with friends and family, and watching the Tigers play.

Curt is survived by his beautiful wife Elaine and his children, Doug, Dana, Kendi, and Kelli. Daughters in law Penny and Lisa, and sons in law Jeff and Rich. One sister, Eileen Day. Grandchildren; Derek, Alec, Ethan, Charlie, Tanner, Parker, Hunter, Skylar, Amelia, and Laney, great-grandchildren; Ryder, Serena, Stella, Colton, Layne, McKenna, and Layla.

Pastor Paul Bradford of the Covenant Church on US23 will officiate a memorial service on Saturday September 23rd at 11:00 am. Friends are welcomed for visitation at 10:00 am and are invited for a luncheon immediately following the service. As this is a celebration of Curt’s life, all those who would like to eulogize Curt will be invited to do so.

In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family is asking that memorials be made to McLaren Home Care and Hospice of Cheboygan, 761 Lafayette Ave, Cheboygan, MI 49721
