Daniel Henry Strong, 81, of Boyne Falls, died March 21, 2026, at McLaren Northern Michigan Hospital.
Daniel, known as Danny, was born on March 25, 1944, in Wyandotte, Michigan, the son of Frank and Fay (Bennett) Strong. He spent most of his life working as a logger, a career that allowed him to travel extensively throughout the United States. Much of his work took him to the West Coast, including Washington, Oregon, California, and Alaska.
Danny was a true free spirit who lived life on his own terms. Whether hopping on railroad cars or hitchhiking, he embraced the adventure of the open road. Though he lacked a traditional education, he possessed a deep knowledge of lumber, trees, and wood, along with a strong interest in American history and geography.
He will be remembered for his tenacity and independent nature, as well as the familiar sight of his loyal dog, Buddy, riding alongside him, whether in the passenger seat of his truck or on his four-wheeler.
Danny is survived by his siblings, Mary Jo Foris of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin; Samuel (Mary Ann) Strong, Nelson (Audie) Strong, and Hollie Davidson, all of Boyne Falls; along with many nieces and nephews; and his dog, Fido.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers-in-law, Gary Foris and David Davidson; and his beloved companion, Buddy.
A celebration of Danny’s life will be held at Chandler Township Hall on April 25, 2026, beginning at 12:00 noon. Burial will take place in the spring at Bliss Township Cemetery.
