David A. Krueger, (81) of Mackinaw City, passed into eternal life on Sunday, December 28, 2025, at home surrounded by his loving family after a long battle with cancer. David was born on August 9, 1944 in Cheboygan, Michigan to Floyd John (Johnny) and Laura (Valot) Krueger. He grew up in Mackinaw City and attended Mackinaw City Public Schools where he graduated in 1962. He joined the Army in December 1962 and served his country for 2 years in Germany. After his honorable discharge in December 1964, he returned to his hometown.
On October 16, 1965, he married Sandra Zurcher and they made their home in Mackinaw City. David worked for the Village of Mackinaw City for 35 years. After his retirement he went to work for C2AE in Gaylord for 10 years doing on-site inspections. David was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed numerous trips to Canada moose hunting with his sons and brothers. David was a member of the American Legion Post 159 of Mackinaw City for 52 years. He served as Post 159 commander for several of these years and was very involved in the Memorial Day services.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Johnny and Laura Krueger, his brother Kenneth, and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bob and Emma Zurcher.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Sandra and his children; David W. (Holly) Krueger of Dexter, Michigan, Wendy (James) Krueger-Bell, Kellie Krueger-Zynewicz and John R. (Lindsey) Krueger all of Mackinaw City; 16 grandchildren, Tierney, Kiara, Samantha, Victoria, Jacob, Macaulay, Calysta, Gabriella, Katelyn, Bailey, Richard, Madison, Ethan, Emma, Owen and Oliver; 2 great granddaughters, Kollins and Aurelia, whom he loved dearly and was so proud of each and everyone of them. He is also survived by brothers, Richard (Darlene) Krueger, Dwight (Martha) Krueger, Lowell (Carol) Krueger, Gerald (Dawn) Krueger and Geoffrey (Susan) Krueger all of Mackinaw City. He is also survived by his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Suzanne and James Tamlyn, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Pastor Dave Wallis of the Church of the Straits officiated a private family memorial service held on Saturday, January 3, 2026 at Nordman Christian Funeral Home in Cheboygan, Michigan. Pastor Wallis will officiate at a memorial/graveside service with military honors in the spring to early summer with internment at Lakeview Cemetery in Mackinaw City.
