David Anthony Leik, 84, of Harbor Springs, Michigan, passed away peacefully at his home in the early morning hours of January 17, 2019. Dave was born on November 18, 1934 in Portland, Michigan to parents Jerry and Hilda Leik. He was the second oldest of the surviving Leik siblings; James, Russell (Roxanne), Jeanette and Daniel (Sally).
After graduating from Portland High School, Dave served in the National Guard before embarking in 1956 on a distinguished 32-year career with the Michigan State Police. He was posted and earned promotions at State Police posts throughout Michigan, before arriving in Petoskey in 1973 as post commander and he continued in that role until retiring in 1988.
He was married to Imogene Kauffman in 1980 and they have resided on a picturesque farming location near Harbor Springs since that time. In addition to his brothers and sister, Dave is survived by three sons, David, Douglas (Sheila), Dwayne (Leigh), eight grandchildren and one great-grandson.
He was active in his Church, the Harbor Springs Kiwanis Club, as Supervisor of the West Traverse Township as well as the northern Michigan farming community through which he made many lasting friendships.
The family will receive guests during a visitation on Wednesday, January 23, 2019 at Holy Childhood Catholic Church in Harbor Springs at 9:30 a.m., followed by a funeral mass to be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. A short reception will be held in the Parish Hall following the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages memorials in David's name to the veteran's charity of the contributor's choice.
