David L. Wheelock

David “Dave” Wheelock age 74 of Cheboygan, Michigan passed away on Thursday, December 1, 2022 at McLaren Northern Michigan with his wife by his side. On October 16, 1948 he was born in Cheboygan, the son of Aubrey and Gertrude (Sarrualt) Wheelock.

He was born and raised as an old farm kid. Dave graduated from Alpena High School in 1966. He married his wife Janis (Bannasch) Wheelock on August 12, 1967. They had two children, Greg and Shannon. He worked at Michigan Bell for 30 years, retiring in 1999 to spend his time enjoying the outdoors and relaxing.

David had many passions in life. He enjoyed the outdoors and going to hunting camp with his brother Brad and other family members. Dave enjoyed watching old Western movies and relaxing on the couch. He ensured the four-wheelers and snowmobiles were ready for adventures with his grandkids and great- granddaughters every year. Dave especially enjoyed teaching his grandchildren to become as passionate as his love for the outdoors. He was always a great provider and handyman who would do anything to help family or friends in need. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather.

He is survived by his wife Janis, children; Greg (Pam) Wheelock and Shannon Cruse, siblings; Shirley Bowen, Carol Preseau, Joan Astrom, Janet (Fred) Pacific, Brad (Deborah) Wheelock, Brian (Connie) Wheelock, grandchildren; Alicia Cruse, Madyson Wheelock, Jesse Wheelock, Zackary Cruse, and Jacob Wheelock, and great-grandchildren; Aleeah and Aspyn Cruse, along with many other family members.

He is preceded in death by his parents as well as brother-in-laws John Bowen, Tom Astrom, and Merle Preseau.

Visitation will take place at the Nordman- Christian Funeral Home on Monday, December 5, 2022 with public visitation from 1:00pm- 4:00pm. Per David’s wishes he will be cremated. Friends and family are welcome to join the family.
