Debi McNeil Obituary

Debi McNeil, née VanParis, age 74, passed away peacefully on March 12, 2026, in Cheboygan, Michigan. Born on April 15, 1951, Debi grew up in Flint, Michigan and graduated from Northwestern High School of Flint.

She later moved to Cheboygan, where she remained deeply connected to the community throughout her life. Debi built a distinguished career with the Cheboygan Chamber of Commerce, where her dedication and leadership led her to the role of Regional Director, overseeing both the Cheboygan and Mackinaw City Chambers of Commerce. Later in her career, she continued administrative work with smaller local organizations, allowing her to remain active in the community she loved.

A gifted artist, Debi viewed life through a purple-colored lens. She expressed her creativity through photography, capturing countless moments of joy and beauty. She also crafted intricate dreamcatchers and quill boxes, showcasing her remarkable talent for working with porcupine quills—an art form that reflected her Native American heritage as an Elder of the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians. Beyond her artistic pursuits, Debi was an accomplished bow hunter and enjoyed fishing—activities that reflected her adventurous spirit and deep love of nature.

Debi’s family was the center of her world. She is survived by her three daughters, Amy Pavwoski (Dan Brcic) of Cheboygan, Michigan, Michele Donovan of Bradenton, Florida, and Corine (Nate) Button of Spring Lake, Michigan. She also leaves behind six grandchildren—Alexis (Chase) Showers, Rebecca Pavwoski, Scott Pavwoski, Zacariah Prowant, Carly Button, and David Button—and three great-grandchildren.

She is also survived by her siblings, sisters Chris (Dave) Sherman of Cheboygan, Michigan, Betsy (Howard) Foley of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Pam (Chaz) Burke of Union Bridge, Maryland; brothers Paul (Charles) VanParis of Green Bay, Wisconsin, and Dean VanParis of Albuquerque, New Mexico; and a special uncle, Jerry Vigil of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Many nieces and nephews will also cherish her memory.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul VanParis and Beth Anye Tellefsen, and a niece Stephanie VanParis.

In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date. Her vibrant spirit and unique way of seeing the world will be remembered always.
