Delaine "June" (Slocum) Kissell

Delaine “June” Kissell, 89, of Harbor Springs, died January 17, 2022, at Hiland Cottage hospice in Petoskey.

She was born on June 13, 1932, the daughter of Henry and Mildred Slocum. She married Adrian Rhine October 21, 1948 and started a family right away, with the addition of her daughters, Sharon and Maxine. Adrian passed away in 1988 and June married again in 2002 to Robert Kissell.

Although June only had two biological children, her home was always open to anyone and had many unofficial adopted children over the years. She loved to read, crochet, and garden. If it grew in the dirt, you would find it in June’s garden; everything from vegetables, flowers and weeds! She volunteered at Manna Food Project in Harbor Springs and had been a member of Stutsmanville Chapel until she recently started attending at Emmanuel Evangelical Church in Petoskey.

She is survived by her daughters, Sharon (the late Thomas Carr) Finney of Petoskey and Maxine (the late Gary) Miller of Harbor Springs; step-sons, Michael and Ron Kissell; grandchildren, Jerrad (Rachel) Swinford, Rodney (J.J.) Lamrock, Bonnie (T.J.) DeLaGarza and Jasmine (Trevor) Halverstadt; 17 great-grandchildren; and 17 great-great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by both husbands, Adrian Rhine and Robert Kissell; and 3 brothers, Bill Slocum, Ken Slocum, and Stanley Slocum.

There will be a memorial service at June's church, Emmanuel Evangelical Church (620 Emmet Street, Petoskey, MI 49770) on Saturday, January 22, 2022 at 2:00 p.m.
