Dennis Michael Driscoll

“Dennis is dead, that’s what I said.” — More than once, Dennis made it clear that this is all he wanted his obituary to say. We just couldn’t leave it like that though, because there is much more to say about his life.

Dennis Michael Driscoll, 66, passed away on June 11, 2022 in Petoskey. He was the son of Donald Driscoll and Lucille Kanthack, the brother of Sharon Luna and Donna Godek, and the friend of many.

He was born on October 10, 1955 in Detroit and grew up in Allen Park, MI. After graduating from Melvindale High School in 1973, he went to electronics school.

In 1984 he moved to Northern Michigan and put his recent training to work fixing electronics at a local business. He eventually became a rural carrier for the United States Post Office in Petoskey, where he worked for 26 years before retiring in 2018.

Dennis didn’t live to work, he worked to live because he had a long list of hobbies. A few of his favorites included fishing, woodworking, boating, electronics, astronomy, cooking and finally, his favorite: making people laugh.

We’re sure that anyone who knew Dennis can still remember his laugh and that would make him happy.

Above all, he cherished spending time with the people he loved most. Dennis enjoyed small talking the day away and sharing his wisdom on almost any topic. The relationships he formed with his friends were the bedrock of what truly made him happy.

He is survived first by his beloved dog Rosie, as well as his cousins who supported him in his final battles with illness. He also leaves behind the friends that became his family: Karen, Dan and Matt Verkerke and Andrea and Bret Kenwell. He was thankful for his many friends that were there for him during his life and especially grateful for LuAnn Griffin and Tom Olsen, who helped him through his final days.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be sent for the care of his dog Rosie. Donations can be made in the name of Dennis Driscoll at Bay Pines Veterinary Clinic at 8769 M-119 Harbor Springs, MI 49740.

A memorial will be held at a later date.
