Dennis Leroy Schellenberg

Dennis Leroy Schellenberg, 77, of Cheboygan, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family at The Brook on Wednesday, November 24, 2021 after a long illness. Dennis was born on July 17, 1944, the son of Charles and Eleanore (Hohf) Schellenberg.

Dennis grew up in Mt. Clemens, where he graduated from Mt. Clemens High School in 1962. In 1974, in Utica, Michigan, Dennis married Mary McDonald, who blessed him with 47 years of marriage. Dennis served honorably in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. After returning, he worked for the Cheboygan Memorial Hospital, where he retired from.

Dennis enjoyed camping, boating, and was an avid golfer. He also was a fan of U of M Football and the Detroit Tigers. He was a former Elder and Financial Secretary at St. John’s Lutheran in Cheboygan, a past member of the Lion’s Club, and a life-long member of the local VFW Post 3623 in Cheboygan.

Dennis is survived by his wife, Mary, two children, Ian Schellenberg of Cheboygan, and Megan Schellenberg of Afton, three granddaughters, Abrielle (David) Sharits, Alyssa Good, and Journey Ferguson, a sister, Gail Peterson, and a brother, Charles Schellenberg. Dennis is preceded in death by his parents and his special friend, Roger Noel.

A memorial service will take place at the Nordman-Christian Funeral Home on Saturday, December 4, 2021 at 3:30pm with family greeting friends beginning at 2pm. Pastor Mike Schaedig will officiate.

The family suggests memorials be made to either St. John’s Lutheran Church in Cheboygan or Hospice of Michigan.
