Dixie Lynn (Bricker) Lahti, 72, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on February 28, 2025, at Grandvue Medical Care Facility in East Jordan, Michigan.
Born at home on the Bricker farm on June 25, 1952, Dixie was the first daughter of Calvin E. Bricker Sr. and Darlene Dorothy Cremeans Bricker Persons. She grew up in a loving family alongside her six siblings.
Dixie’s life was filled with love and an unwavering dedication to family. While working at Kandahar Barn in Elmira, Michigan, she fell in love with a folk singer, William E. Lahti. They were married for 43 years until he passed away in 2013. Together, they built a wonderful family, raising their four children in Haslett, Michigan.
Dixie was a loving mother with a boundless work ethic; she always found the time to be at school sporting events, cheering on her children with pride. She adored her grandchildren and never passed up an opportunity to spoil them. A compassionate soul, she frequently visited those in need, always putting others before herself.
For over 40 years, Dixie worked at the Student Book Store in East Lansing where she met many lifelong friends. Outside of work, she enjoyed staying active – playing softball, racquetball, and skiing. She had a deep love for plants and nature. As a Master Gardener, she found joy in tending to her potted plants, flowerbeds, and gardens. She enjoyed participating in and judging flower and plant arrangement competitions.
She is survived by her children William B. Lahti (DeeLane Camling), Russell Lahti (Jennifer Rutzen), and Liis Lahti (Chris Moore, Cai Wright); grandchildren Uriah (Yasmine), Aili, Ava, Aiden, Emmaline, Weaver, and Niilo; great-grandchildren Qut al Qulub and Yalnour; siblings Calvin E. (Colleen) Bricker Jr., David (Robin) Bricker, Christy (Dale) Reinhardt, Connie (Frank A.) Shaler, Bette (Bob) Brewer, and Sara (Mitch) Hildebrant, as well as many extended family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband William E. Lahti, son Edward A. Lahti, daughter-in-law Amanda (Diller) Lahti, her parents and brother Timothy William Bricker.
A visitation will be held at Stackus Funeral Home in Boyne City, Michigan, on Saturday, March 8th, 2025, from 1-4 pm. A celebration of her life will take place at a later date in Haslett, Michigan.
In honor of Dixie’s memory, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association (www.alz.org) or the American Brain Foundation (www.americanbrainfoundation.org).
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to her sister Connie for her extraordinary care throughout Dixie’s journey with Alzheimer’s, as well as to the compassionate staff at Grandvue Medical Care Facility.
Dixie’s warmth, kindness, and vibrant spirit will be dearly missed, but her legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
