Dominic Robert Francis, Sr.

Dominic Francis – beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend - passed away September 12, 2023 in Petoskey, Michigan, at the age of 90 surrounded by family. He was born on October 20, 1932, in Elmira, Michigan to Stanley and Tellie (nee’ Petrowski) Francis. Dominic graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Gaylord, Michigan and worked on the family farm until he enlisted into the United States Army, where he completed jump school and became a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne. He volunteered for combat duty during the Korean War where he was with the 2nd Infantry Division. After the Army he went to technical school in Detroit where he learned to be a field technician. He married the love of his life, Jean on May 28th, 1960, at St Augustine Catholic Church in Boyne Falls, Michigan. The new couple moved to Petoskey in 1960 and had lived in the same house for over sixty years.

Dominic worked for American Microwave until his retirement, not one to sit around, Dominic took up a second career as a bank courier for National Bank of Detroit until he retired for good in 2000. Dom was in the Knights of Columbus for over 57 years, he became a 4th Degree Knight in 1981 and served as the Grand Knight for 3 years. Dominic was also a life member of the Petoskey Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #2462.

Dominic’s favorite past times were camping, square dancing, and spending time with family, but he truly enjoyed spending time with his wife and they were rarely separated over their 63+ years of marriage. Surviving are his children: Cynthia (Jeff) Rausch, Teresa (Doug) Backus, Anthony (Sue) Francis, Denise (Dan) Walsh; nine grandchildren: Sidney, Allison, Kristina, Katie, Christopher, Colton, Taylar, Carol Ann, and Regan: and four Great Grand Children. He was preceded in death by 3 brothers and 5 sisters, his beloved wife Jean, and son Dominic Francis.

Visitation will be held 5:00 to 7:00 PM Thursday, September 14, 2023, at Stone Funeral Home in Petoskey, rosary will begin at 6:30 PM.  Mass will be celebrated 11:00 AM Friday, September 15, 2023 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Petoskey followed by burial at Greenwood Cemetery.
