Donald Ewers Obituary

Donald Paul “Bud” Ewers passed away peacefully at the age of 93 on Thursday January 8, 2026, at The Brook of Cheboygan, MI with his loving wife Carol at his side.

Bud was a kind and loving man who never met a stranger and made friends wherever he went.  Always a kind word and a smile to offer to those he encountered.

After his discharge from the Coast Guard, Bud had a career as an accountant and programmer in data processing for the automotive industry.

Bud was an avid sportsman who enjoyed tennis, fishing, hunting, hockey and especially golf. He also enjoyed traveling and camping.  From Maine to California and Florida to Alaska, Bud and Carol explored the country making friends in almost all fifty states!

Bud has always had a strong gift of faith and was chosen by God to join the Catholic Church in 1980. When they moved to Cheboygan in 1993, they joined St. Mary’s/St. Charles Catholic Church.

He was very involved in the church serving as a Eucharistic minister, on the finance council, was in charge of the old catholic school demo, was involved in fundraising for construction of the Bishop Baraga Catholic School and with the Bishop Baraga Catholic School Prayer Group. Bud was also an ardent fundraiser for the K of C and often served and delivered Thanksgiving dinners.

Bud was preceded by his parents Paul E. and Doris M. Ewers, sister and brother-in-law Susan and Larry Clausen, brothers-in-law Chris Rogers and Jim Montgomery and beloved son-in-law Mark Holmes.

He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years Carol; sister Mary Lou Montgomery; brothers Dan (Denise) Ewers, Dale Ewers;  daughters Cindy (Dennis) McCarthy, Laurie King, Debbie Ewers, Kathleen Gregory, Maria (John) Hochkins, Ron (Debi) Printz, Joy Holmes, Christine (Greg) Kavka, Gary (Heidi Dortenzio) Printz, Mary Printz-Shafer and 11 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, and 3 on the way; brother-in-law Larry (Pam) Rogers, sister-in-law Sharon Rogers and numerous nieces and nephews and his many friends.

Services will be held at St. Mary’s/St. Charles Catholic Church on Tuesday January 13, 2026. Visitation will be at 2:00 with a funeral mass to follow at 3:00. Burial will be held in the spring.
