Donald Kilmer Obituary

Donald A. Kilmer, 76, of Alanson, died on November 26, 2021.

Don was born December 7, 1944, in Petoskey, Michigan, the son of Urias and Rhoda Kilmer. He grew up in Alanson and graduated from Littlefield Public Schools.

On June 25, 1965, he married Sarah Honeysette in Petoskey. They would spend the next 56 years happily married.

Don will be most remembered as the maintenance/bus mechanic in the blue jean vest, at Littlefield Public Schools for over 25 years. Upon retirement Don and Sarah made their home on a 68 acre “Tractor Farm” in Trout Lake, Michigan. Don loved restoring old tractors. He was most proud of his 1949 Ford Oliver Flathead V8 that he customized. Don’s ability to fabricate almost anything will be carried on by so many that he shared his knowledge with.

Don loved watching NASCAR, Westerns, going to auctions, and spending time with his “boys”. He was a quiet man but when he spoke, people listened. He loved his family and spending time with them brought him the greatest joy.

He is survived by his wife, Sarah; children, Kevin and Lisa Hallenbeck of Brutus, and Mike and Monique Kilmer of Alanson; grandsons, Kyle Hallenbeck of Vanderbilt, Kole Hallenbeck of Indian River, Rory (Morgan) Diamond of Petoskey, and Zane Cone of Petoskey; great grandson, Hudson Diamond; brother, Merlin Kilmer of Alanson; sisters, Joyce (Jim) Bellmer of Alanson, and Nora (Leo) Hallenbeck of Florida; sister-in-law, Dora (Lloyd) Dickey of Alanson; several nieces and nephews; and by his “barn buddies”, Tom, Dick, and Rich.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Kenneth and Dale Kilmer; and his sister, Avis Kendig.
