Donnell Raspberry

Donnell Raspberry; 68 of Alanson, died January 7, 2022 at the McLaren Northern Michigan Hospital in Petoskey.

Donnell was born on August 2, 1953 in Gary, Indiana, the son of Norman and Mattie (Berry) Raspberry.  Mattie died when Donnell was young, so his father raised him with the help of his aunt, Nina Johnson.

Donnell loved his family and life and before he began dialysis, he was full of energy.  Donnell loved animals, especially his dog, as well as babies and young children.  He enjoyed meeting new people, cooking outdoors, BBQ, fishing, and keeping his cars looking factory clean and shiny.  He was an “old school” kind of guy and anyone always knew where they stood with him.  He will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his wife, Louise; 6 children, Denise Raspberry, Shiron (Romero) Brown, Donnella Raspberry, Anitra Raspberry, Quinta Raspberry and Danielle Raspberry and by their mother, Debra Raspberry; grandchildren, Romero Brown, Jr., Roshon A. Brown, Rashea A. Brown, Shanice Raspberry, Danny Thomas, Destiny Thomas, Raévon Simpson, Raékwon Simpson, Brian Flowers, Jr., Brenia Flowers, Michael Carter, Jr., Milan Carter, and Daneir Raspberry; 6 great grandchildren, Ashanti, Starr, Deneisha, Dontrell, DeWayne, and London; 3 step children, Tammy (Jimmy Powell) Walter, Jamie (Bill) Burmeister, and Jeremy (Ashley) Hall; 6 step grandchildren, Kaitlynn Walter, Hannah Walter, Bryon Burmeister, William “Clay” Burmeister, Charles Hall and Anders Hall; by a sister, Carolyn Pittman; 2 sisters-in-law, Sarah (Roger) Hall and Roberta (John) Ball; and  by Donale Harris.

Donnell was preceded in death by his parents; and by 8 siblings, Norman Jr., Vera Morris, Dorothy (DJ) Beard, Lawrence, William (Lovie), Gail Betha, Rita Summes, and by his twin sister, Deborah Lewis. 

A memorial service celebrating Donnell's life will be held on Saturday, January 15th at 2pm the Salvation Army at 712 Pleasant Street, Petoskey, MI 49770.  The family will receive friends at the church from 1pm until the time of service.
