Doris Lark Obituary

Doris Rose Lark, 91 of Alanson, died July 25, 2021, at the McLaren Northern Michigan Hospital in Petoskey.

She was born in Alanson on February 28, 1930, to Sidney and Helen (Hans) Temple. The family moved to Oden, and she attended elementary school in Alanson and graduated from Petoskey High School in 1948.

On September 15, 1950, she married Raymond Lark, and they resided on Crooked lake, where they built and operated the Lakeside Motel. In 1954, Doris worked at the Oden Post Office and filled in at the Conway, Alanson, Burt Lake, and the Brutus offices. In 1976, she was appointed the Brutus Postmaster and retired from that post in 1990 after 35 years with the US Post Office. In 1980, Raymond and Doris sold the motel and built a home on Moore Road. Raymond preceded her in death in 1984. After her retirement as Post Master, she remained very active. Doris played golf, bowling and enjoyed traveling. She traveled with her sisters and brothers-in-law, and granddaughter to Europe, visiting the Netherlands, France, Germany, and Switzerland. She also enjoyed cruises with friends and family.

She was a member of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees, the Daughters of the American Revolution, Oden Community Association, where she served as Treasurer for 25 years. She was also involved in restoring the 100 Year Old School House into a Community Building. In addition, she was a member of the Petoskey Friendship Center, where she volunteered for RSVP for over 25 years. Finally, she was a Maple River Golf Course member, formerly the Pine Hill Golf, where she had four documented Holes-in-One.

Doris was an avid sports fan. She followed all the Detroit teams and especially the University of Michigan Football and Basketball games. Her grand nephews were very special to her, and you could always see her cheering them on at their high school sporting events. Doris also enjoyed her High School Class Reunion, celebrating her 70th in 2018. Doris always put other's needs in front of her own. She will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her daughter, Connie (Jerry) Pesarcyk; grandson, Jeffrey Ray Pesarcyk; granddaughter, Jacklyn Jean (Phil) Vorce; 2 sisters, Barbara George and Diane (Frank) Armock; sisters-in-law, Barbara (Weldon) Nordine and Iris (Robert) Ulrich; brother-in-law, Duane Lark; and by many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Raymond, brother-in-laws H. Robert George, James Lark, Alec Lark, and sister-in-law Louise Woodruff.

A memorial gathering will be at the Stone Funeral Home on Friday, July 30, from 10-11 am. All are welcome.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Friendship Center of Emmet County at 1322 Anderson Road, Petoskey, MI 49770, or the Alanson Area Public Library, 7631 Burr Ave, Alanson, MI 49706.
