Dr. Guy Golembiewski, 69, of Boyne Falls, died January 22, 2023 at home with his family by his side.
Guy was born April 15, 1953, in Toledo, Ohio, the son of John and Caroline (Przybycz) Golembiewski. He attended St. Francis de Sales High School in Toledo and Columbia University in New York for his undergraduate degree. He graduated medical school from The Ohio State University in 1980 and began working in family medicine on Lagrange Street in Toledo in 1981, his family’s beloved Polish neighborhood.
On October 4, 1997, he married Dr. Andrea Naylor. They enjoyed the Big Island of Hawaii before settling in Northern Michigan in 2000. Guy took a job at Boyne Highlands, where he performed Executive physicals. He spent 10 years at NMH/McLaren as the Chief Medical Information Officer and assisted in the design and implementation of the electronic health record. However, he found his true calling when he became the Medical Director of Harbor Hall in 2005, helping patients through detox and into recovery.
Guy was a walking encyclopedia. He knew a little something about every topic and was always ready to teach. The kitchen was his happy place and he enjoyed making (and eating) fabulous meals. Known as a sharp dresser, he was always wearing a hat and looking his best. He had an incredible musical memory and could turn conversation into a song lyric, which he delivered with a beautiful voice. His daughter soaked up all of that and gives her own spin to things, just like he did. He excelled at many sports through his life and passed those skills onto his son, including a love of golf and fishing.
He is survived by his wife Andrea Golembiewski; his children, Ani and Guy, Jr., sisters, Diane (Clyde) Nebb and Jan (Jim) Comiskey; nieces and nephews, Mark (Melony) Zientiek, Becky (Jim) Simons, Wendy (Matt) Goodrich, Jamie Comiskey, Jennifer Comiskey, Jessica Comiskey (fiancé Nate Clemett); mother-in-law Nancy Naylor; sisters-in-law Denise (Pat) Renier and Erica (Greg) Murphy; as well as great nieces and nephews, and friends near and far.
There will be a visitation at Stone Funeral Home on Thursday, January 26, 2023 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held the following day, Friday, January 27, at Stone Funeral Home, beginning at 11:00 a.m. with a one-hour visitation prior to the service. Rev. Todd Thompson will officiate. Burial will take place at Mount Carmel Cemetery in Toledo, Ohio at a later date.
His family suggests memorial donations to Harbor Hall (PO Box 376, Harbor Springs, MI 49740) or St. Francis de Sales High School Foundation, Toledo Ohio.
