Dr. William "Lee" Waters

Dr. William “Lee” Waters, 91, of Petoskey, died May 18, 2023 at Mallard Cove Assisted Living.

Lee was born on December 3, 1931, in Fremont, Michigan, the son of M.L. and Nellie (DeHaven) Waters. He grew up and attended school in Fremont, graduated from Western Michigan University and Wayne State for medical school.

On June 11, 1955, he married Barbara Ann Place. Lee worked as a Pediatrician in the Detroit area until moving the family to Petoskey in 1968. He practiced Pediatrics at the Burns Clinic until 1979.

Lee and Barbara became Double Diamonds with their Amway business. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing for trout, hunting elk, moose, birds, and deer. He was a member of the Pere Marquette Rod and Gun Club, the NRA, Ducks Unlimited and Trout Unlimited. He loved being outdoors, gardening and bird watching. He was a member of the Bay Harbor Yacht Club, a board member of the Emmet County Friendship Center and an elder at his church Jesus is Lord in Bay Shore. He had a deep love for all family especially in recent years his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He had a good sense of humor and enjoyed life very much. He had a positive outlook and was a big dreamer with deep faith.

Lee is survived by his daughter Leigh Ann (Michael) Anderson of Grand Rapids; his son, Michael (Flora) Waters of Petoskey; grandchildren, Nicholas Certa, Tara (Steve Weiss) Certa, David (Hilary) Waters and Arielle (Dallin) Brubaker; and his great-grandchildren, Vedette Flier-Certa, Terje and Tor Brubaker, and William “Liam” and Madeline Waters. 

He is preceded in death by his wife, Barbara; and his siblings, Marion Ludlow, Jim Waters and Katie Zwingeberg.

There will be a service at Stone Funeral Home (2098 East Mitchell Road, Petoskey, MI 49770) on May 30, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. with one-hour visitation prior to the service. Rev. Ward Potts will officiate.

Burial will take place at Greenwood Cemetery.
