Edith LaVeque Obituary

Edith Stella “Deda” LaVeque (Robiadek), 92, of Cheboygan, passed away peacefully, comfortable and content in her own home on Tuesday, March 21, 2023.

She was born December 15, 1930 in Cheboygan, the daughter of Paul and Stella Robiadek (Kolaski). She grew up in Cheboygan and attended school at Cheboygan Elementary and High School, graduating in 1948. She was born and raised at The Tannery.

On July 29, 1950 she married Richard “Dick” LaVeque in Cross Village. They built their first home and started their family together.

Deda was known for making the best holiday dinners, potato salad, and bread. In her younger years she enjoyed bowling, gardening in the summer, and fishing on her Canadian vacations. She would catch and cook the fish, but never eat it. She loved to play the lottery, watching the nightly numbers and buying scratch off tickets. She made up for it by being very frugal. She was very popular with the Red Cross, having donated over 50 gallons of blood.

Deda wouldn’t admit to pain or suffering, always responded with “I’m Okay”, and was able to spend the recent weeks of her life being at home. She even got to enjoy a glass of wine and a whiskey soda nightly.

Surviving are her three sons, Thomas (Nancy) LaVeque of Frankfort, William LaVeque of Athens, Georgia, and Owen LaVeque of Cheboygan, a daughter, Valorie LaVeque (life companion, Carl LaCross), also of Cheboygan, brother Gene Robiadek of Grand Blanc, four grandchildren, Courtney, Travis, and Jonathan Mellberg, and Carla Jankoviak, and one great grandchild, Jacob Jankoviak.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Donald LaVeque, sisters; Alice Fenlon and Florence “Babe” Wixson, brothers; Edward, Victor, John, Frank (Butch), and Tom.

Deda’s family welcomes all thoughts, prayers, remembrances, and visits from friends and relatives, and would like to express sincere gratitude to all staff of McLaren Northern Michigan and McLaren Hospice for their very professional and personal care during this time.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to McLaren Northern Michigan and McLaren Hospice.

Interment and memorial at Pinehill Cemetery will be held at a later date.
