Edward Palenkas, 74, of Cheboygan, died October 14, 2025, at his home.
Edward was born on August 9, 1951, in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Edward and Grace (Manrich) Palenkas, and was raised in Macomb County, MI. He graduated from the Oakland Christian Academy and then went on to receive a degree in Manufacturing and Engineering in college. Edward then went to work in the Detroit area in automotive manufacturing until he retired and moved to Cheboygan.
He was an avid huntsman and fisherman. Edward spent all of his free time at the family’s lake house/bear hunting lodge on Bright Lake in Iron Bridge, Canada. He taught his girls to hunt, fish, play golf, and to love dogs. In fact, his greatest joy in the end of his life was gifting his dog to his grandchildren.
He was a Master Mason with the Utica-Macomb Masonic Lodge #64, and was a devoted member of the Church of the Straits in Mackinaw City, MI.
Edward is survived by two daughters, Ashley (Ian Vedder) Palenkas and April Palenkas; and by three grandchildren, Ryland Vedder (7), Vivian Vedder (5), and Zoey Palenkas (3).
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Grace Palenkas, and by a sister, Debbie Saia.
Ed retained his sense of humor up until the very end, always managing to bring a smile or a laugh, even in his final days.
Per Edward’s wishes, no public services will be held. Those wishing to honor his memory are asked to make a donation to the Church of the Straits in Mackinaw City, MI.
