Edward Douglas Shaw

Edward Douglas Shaw, 95, of Cheboygan passed away on May 29, 2025, at his home surrounded by family. Edward was born on September 16, 1929, in Flint, MI, the son of Edward Shaw and Hazel (Richardson) Shaw. He grew up in Flint as well, graduating from Flint Central High School, class of 1948. On June 3, 1949, he married Barbara Pfister at the First Presbyterian Church in Flint, MI.

After high school, he immediately went to work at Michigan Bell Telephone as a lineman, eventually becoming a supervisor in Flint, moving to Lansing in 1968 for a promotion. He retired in his early fifties, having over 30 years with the telephone company.

In 1968, Edward purchased a cottage on Mullet Lake where his family enjoyed countless summers spent fishing and relishing in each other’s company. After many years, Edward and his wife Barbara toured an RV across the United States, making it their goal to visit National Parks, shorelines, family and friends along the way. When Edward was not traveling or spending time with his family, he enjoyed watching sports, especially Big 10 football and NFL football on weekends, as well as working around his house and property. Edward also had a deep appreciation for the automobile manufacturing industry in Flint, his favorite being Buick. Edward served as the Treasurer for the Topinabee Community Church for many years, in addition to assisting with the local elections in Mullet Township.

Edward is survived by his children; Craig Shaw, Marcia (Larry) Elowsky, Barry (Yvonne) Shaw, Sandra (Arthur) West, and grandchildren; Craig Jr., Jonathan, Andrea, Chad, Kipp, Cole, Barry Jr., Chris, Kyoko, Brooke and Micheal. He is also survived by many great grandchildren, as well as great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Barbara on August 22, 2024, his son Mark Shaw on February 25, 2020, and his parents.

A memorial service for Edward is scheduled for 11:00 AM, June 6, 2025, at the Topinabee Community Church. Burial will be at the Burt-Mullet Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, anyone wishing to make a charitable donation in memory of Edward should consider the Topinabee Community Church.
