Elaine Grunch Obituary

Elaine Ann Grunch, of Boyne City, went to be with her God on Saturday May 13th at 5:40pm.  She passed after a heroic battle with Parkinson’s Disease.  She was 82 years old.

Elaine was born on April 5, 1941 to Chester and Jane Like. She had 3 sisters, one of which was her identical twin.  She grew up on a cattle ranch in the Northeast corner of New Mexico.  She later moved to Albuquerque for college where she met the love of her life, Ronald Grunch. They were married on December 29th, 1965.  They moved to Ron’s native Michigan where they raised 3 children.

Elaine was a loving mother and grandmother. She was always a gracious hostess. She often had a house filled with 10+ kids, which many considered a second mother.  She coined some seriously funny phrases that will never be forgotten.

Elaine and Ron owned the local Sears and Western Auto Stores in Boyne City.  She was a member in the Lioness Club and spent many years visiting the elderly in her community.  Both Elaine and Ron were active members for over 50 years in St. Matthews Church, singing in the choir and participating in Catholic Community Events.

Elaine was preceded in death by her parents, 3 sisters, her daughter Debbie Grunch Harris and her son Randy Grunch.

Elaine is survived by her husband Ronald Grunch, her daughter Tammy (Shawn) Beckman, her son-in-law Mark (Jill) Harris and 6 grandchildren Brendan Harris, Christian Harris, Maddie Harris, Cameron Harris, Belen Beckman and Remington Beckman.

A funeral mass will be held at St. Matthews in Boyne City on Monday, May 22 at 11:00am.  There will be a memorial visitation beforehand starting at 10am until mass begins. After mass, there will be a burial of her ashes at Maple Lawn Cemetery followed by a luncheon at the church.
