Eleanor V. Kalchik

Eleanor Violet Kalchik, 93 of Petoskey, passed away peacefully on April 20, 2019 surrounded by her family. Eleanor was born May 19, 1925 in Detroit, MI, the daughter of Violet and Earl Burk. Eleanor grew up in Petoskey, MI and attended and graduated from Petoskey High School. Eleanor married the love of her life Donald R. Kalchik on June 26, 1946 and they celebrated over 60 years of marriage before he went home to be with the Lord. Don and Eleanor raised two children, Barbara and Donald in the Petoskey area.

Eleanor was a homemaker until her children were grown. In the late 1980's Don and Eleanor opened Kalchik Linens and Apparel in downtown Petoskey until they retired in the late 1990's. She then cared for her loving husband until his death in 2006. Eleanor will be remembered as a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend. She was gracious and loving to everyone she met and no one remained a stranger for long. Eleanor brought you into her life as family. Throughout her life, she taught her children and grand children the morals and values that she held so firmly, to love each other, to care for others, and to treat others with love and respect. Her most precious moments were when she was surrounded by her children and grandchildren. Her eyes would light up with love and joy.

Eleanor is survived by her daughter Barbara (Mick) Stoddard, Petoskey; her son Donald (Tara Conti) Kalchik, Petoskey; grandchildren, Lisa (Brandon) Beckman, William (Amy) Stoddard, Ashely (Josh) Haas, Kalie (Ken) Ebel; 10 great grandchildren, Katie, Jacob and Matthew Beckman, Hayden and Sydney Foster, Hannah and Aiden Haas, Carmella, Valerie and Maximus Ebel; brother in law Bill Kalchik; sister in laws Dorothy Brochu and Ruthie Detzler; as well as many loving nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband Don, her parents, and her sister Dorothy Behan.

Visitation will be at Stone Funeral Home in Petoskey on Wednesday, April 24 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. with the Rosary being recited at 7:30 p.m. Mass of the Resurrection will be held at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church on April 25 at 10:30 a.m. with visitation beginning at 9:30 a.m.
