Elizabeth Need Obituary

Elizabeth (Betty) Ann Need, 84, passed away peacefully at home on September 9, 2020, surrounded by her family..

Elizabeth was born on August 20, 1936 in Detroit, Michigan, to Martin and Stephanie Binkowski. She attended school in Detroit and graduated from Denby High School. On July 27, 1957, she married Robert (Bob) E. Need. They welcomed their daughter, Maryanne, in May of 1971.

Together, in 1976, they took a leap of faith, and moved up north to Alanson, when they purchased the bar then called Frenchie’s. They quickly re-named it Bob’s Place, and the rest is history. Betty did all the cooking. They sold Bob’s in 1986 and then went on to own and operate a couple of restaurants in Petoskey, the final being The Bistro, in 1995.

Betty loved reading mysteries, doing crossword puzzles, playing Mahjong with her friends and of course, cooking. But her greatest pleasure was spending time with her family, especially her two grandchildren, Tyler and Megan Knapp.

Betty is survived by her husband, Bob; daughter, Maryanne (Eric) Knapp; grandchildren Tyler and Megan Knapp; her sister, Carol Zybura; brother, Thomas Binkowski and many nephews, nieces and friends.

A memorial service is being planned for a later date at Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Petoskey.
