Elmer Kochans Obituary

Elmer Robert Kochans, passed away on July 16, 2025, at the age of 95. He was born on April 25, 1930, to his father Elmer Kochans Senior and mother Rose. Elmer was the oldest of seven children.

He proudly served in the U.S. Army from May 1947 to April 1950, stationed in the Philippines. Upon his return home, Elmer began working in the appliance business where he thrived and gained respect for his strong work ethic and his skills in sales and leadership. It was in 1987 that Elmer left the appliance industry and continued to work as a sales consultant until the age of 80. His drive to succeed and risk-taking personality carried over to his love of the outdoors which included hunting, running, skiing, golf, and sailing. Elmer was a member and served as an elder for several years at Zion Lutheran Church in Petoskey, Michigan and enjoyed volunteering for the Salvation Army.

Before his death Elmer wrote,

“When I was young, I dreamed about what my life might look like and the things I might do. Nearly all of it came true. I married a wonderful woman, Ginny, had two lovely daughters, Valerie and Joyce, who later married Erick and Bill who became great sons-in-law. I truly enjoyed and loved my four exceptional grandchildren Kyle, Ericka, Amy, and Brian and was further enriched by my great-grandchildren, Madeline, Ethan, Colton, and Carly.

My career in the appliance business allowed my family to live in comfort, to pay for Valerie and Joyce’s college education, travel the world, retire in Northern Michigan, and do things beyond my dreams. I have been very blessed.”
