Eugene Gary Velie

Eugene Gary Velie, 81, of Pellston, Michigan, died June 16, 2022 at McLaren Northern Michigan Hospital.

Eugene was born on March 29, 1941, in Florence Township, Michigan, the son of Sam and Effie (Milliman) Velie. He grew up in Centreville, Michigan and attended school at Centreville Public Schools.

On November 28, 1959, he married Shirley Ann Lindsley in White Pigeon, Michigan.

He started building homes with his brother at 13 and retired from carpentry work in the spring of 2021. He and Shirley spent many years working together in business. During his life, he was self-employed as a carpenter, mechanic and car salesman. He was a jack of all trades.

He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie #1314 Sturgis Golden Member. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time outdoors. His greatest joy was spending time with his wife, family and friends.

He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Shirley Velie; his children, Susie Velie of Pellston, Randy (Donna) Velie of Brevort, and Sherry Velie of Pellston; grandchildren, Grant (Sarah) Velie of Ada, and Abby (Peter) Larr of Sturgis; great-grandsons, Mason, Parker and Reese Velie; as well as his beloved nieces and nephews.

There will be a memorial service at the Fellowship Bible Church Cemetery in Centerville, Michigan on July 9, 2022 at (time?). A memorial gathering will be held in Pellston, July 23, 2022, location and time are still to be determined.

The family suggests memorials donations be directed to his wife, Shirley.
