Evelyn G. (Bjorklund) Grice

Evelyn Grice, age 88, of Boyne City, passed away surrounded by family on Wednesday, September 13, 2023 at Grandvue Medical Care Facility in East Jordan.  Evelyn was born on November 30, 1934 in Hope, North Dakota to Nels and Grace (Hahn) Bjorklund. Her father died when Evelyn was three and her brother Jim was an infant.  Evelyn attended Hope Public Schools while living with her uncle Clyde Hahn on his farm and then Minneapolis schools where she and her brother lived during WWII. In 1949, her mother remarried and she moved to Rock Island, Illinois along with her mother and brother where she graduated from High School.  She met her future husband James in Chicago and they married in May of 1956, eventually settling in Boyne City where she and her husband raised their five children and owned and operated the Ben Franklin Store until they retired in 1995.  Evelyn is survived by her brother Peter (Dorothy) Swanson of Princeton, Minnesota, her children Edward (Cindy), Deborah McLeod, Jeffrey, Jerry (Amy) and Diane Grice.  They had fourteen grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren. Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband James in 2012, grandson Billy Grice and her brother Jim.

Eveyln loved painting, crafting, sewing, and ceramics and sharing her artistic creativity with her family and friends.  She enjoyed her time as a member of the Boyne Valley Garden Club and loved her Detroit Tigers.  Mom’s quick wit and delightful sense of humor was passed on to her five kids and her grandchildren.

Services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, September 22, 2023 at Stackus Funeral Home in Boyne City with a gathering of friends and family from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Flowers are welcome and any other contributions can be made to Grandvue Terrace and Parks in memory of Evelyn Grice.
