Flora Jean Jensen (née Harris), age 93, passed away peacefully on November 26, 2025, in Petoskey, Michigan. Born on January 9, 1932, in Boyne City, Michigan, she lived a life rooted in faith, family, and service to her community.
Flora was the daughter of John Wesley and Beatrice Ion Harris and grew up in Boyne City, where she attended Boyne City Public Schools. Even before graduating high school, she began working as an assistant to the librarian at the Boyne City Public Library—a fitting role for someone with a lifelong love of reading.
After marrying Edgar James Jensen, Flora dedicated herself to both her family and her professional life. She worked as a secretary for the Guy Conkle Law Firm until the birth of her first child. Later, she served as a secretary at Boyne City Middle School for an impressive 22 years. Her commitment to civic duty extended beyond the classroom; she was also an active member of the Boyne City Election Team.
A woman of deep faith, Flora was a longtime member of the Boyne City Free Methodist Church. She served faithfully on the church’s prayer committee and found strength and purpose through her spiritual community.
Flora’s greatest joy came from her family. She was a devoted wife to Edgar James Jensen and a loving mother to four children: Shirley Jacobson and husband Don of Shoreview, Minnesota; Susan Zimmerman of Gladstone, Michigan; Betsy Mania and husband David of Petoskey; and William Jensen and wife Lori of Boyne City. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren—Melissa, Sara, Kathy, Ashley, Aaron, Steven, Becca, and Matt—and great-grandchildren—Amelia, Zak, Ford, Mason, Morgan, Taryn, Cameron, and Landon. She is also survived by her sister, Phyllis Hausler of Boyne Falls, MI
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Edgar; her parents John Wesley and Beatrice Ion Harris; and her brothers John Harris and Tom Harris.
In addition to being an avid reader who delighted in crossword puzzles, Flora enjoyed crocheting and sewing—pastimes that reflected both her creativity and patience. Her quiet strength and gentle spirit touched all who knew her.
A celebration of life will be planned for sometime in the spring to honor Flora’s memory among family and friends.
May her memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved her.
