Frances Halitsky, 106 of Cheboygan, passed away on August 2, 2025, surrounded by her family. She was born on December 9, 1918, in St. Johns, MI, the daughter of William Heibeck and Mable Hicks. On April 5, 1941, she married Nick Halitsky at the First Methodist Church in St. Johns. After the couple wed, they moved to Flint, but shortly moved back to St. Johns where Frances worked as a cashier at the St. Johns Public School Lunch Program. The couple eventually settled down in Indian River in 1981.
Frances enjoyed camping, boating, snowmobiling, bowling, hunting, cross country skiing, cooking, gardening, and sewing. She was a member of the St. Johns Child Study Club, the Order of the Eastern Star, Blue Star Mothers, United Methodists Women’s Club, the Bowling League in St. Johns, and the Indian River United Methodist Church Building Committee (now known as Living Waters Church).
She is survived by her children Janice (Jim) Crowell, Ted (Brenda) Halitsky, and Eric “Rick” (Kathy) Halitsky. Grandchildren Darrin (Chris) Crowell, Alec (Cori) Crowell, Brent (Doni) Crowell, Kevin (Jenina) Halitsky, and Matthew Halitsky. She is also survived by 9 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Nick Halitsky, her parents, and daughter-in-law Betty Halitsky. She was also preceded by her siblings Kathryn Peck, Beatrice Heibeck, Kenneth Heibeck, Robert Heibeck, Lawrence Heibeck, Conrad Heibeck, and Ronald Heibeck as well as sister in law Bonnie Heibeck.
A memorial service for Frances will take place on Friday August 8, 2025, at the Living Waters Global Methodist Church. Visitation will begin at 10am with a Memorial Service beginning at 11am.
